National Building Granite Quarries Association Merges with the Natural Stone Institute

Posted on 23 August 2021 by cradmin4

The National Building Granite Quarries Association (NBGQA) has voted to merge with the Natural Stone Institute (NSI) to further advance industry efforts to support quarry advocacy, sustainability, outreach to architects and designers and continued efforts to promote the use of natural stone.

The NBGQA was founded more than a century ago with approximately 12 original member granite companies. Today the membership is comprised of five companies: Coldspring, Dakota Granite, New England Stone, North Carolina Granite and Polycor. All are existing Natural Stone Institute members.

Through this merger, the NSI will acquire ownership of the NBGQA granite specification, as well as resources to further advance quarry safety initiatives, sustainability, natural stone promotion and advocacy. NBGQA financial assets will be earmarked to assist with several initiatives being directed by the newly formed North American Quarry Advocacy Group, which is the first of several industry advocacy groups being formed by the Natural Stone Institute. The NBGQA will remain incorporated for two years as the transition takes shape and work begins on key initiatives through the North American Quarry Advocacy Group.

Natural Stone Institute board president Michael Picco (PICCO Engineering) commented, “We are excited to see this merger occur as it will strengthen the industry’s ability to further advance several key industry initiatives. We’ve been working alongside the NBGQA and its members for several years which makes this merger a natural transition. The quarrying sector will benefit from the initiatives underway.”

Business Sense: 7 Valuable Things We’ve Learned From Visiting Successful Countertop Shops

Posted on 17 August 2021 by cradmin

By Katherine Gifford of Moraware

Over the last 18+ years, we’ve had many amazing opportunities to visit countertop shops. Whether it’s through a tour associated with an industry event or visiting our own awesome customers, we’re always happy to see just how creative fabricators are getting with the way they run their businesses. These visits often include business conversations which really help us understand the changes in the industry and inform our development of new features.

But, it’s not just about us! These tours are so beneficial in creating an open and collaborative tone within the industry. Every time we go explore a new shop, we learn something new and so do other fabricators. In case you haven’t been able to go lately, here are some important themes we’ve learned along the way.

1. There’s not one right way to set up a shop

After visiting so many shops, one thing’s for sure – they’re all so different! For example, some shops have elegant, extensive showrooms allowing homeowners to visualize how great their new kitchen could look. Other shops skip the showroom entirely and opt for a one-on-one consultation.

It’s not right or wrong to have either set-up. If you know your customers and what is going to get them to buy, then you’re doing it the right way. Don’t worry about what your competitors are doing.

Instead, add more activities into your sales process that allow you to understand your customers better. This could be questions that you ask during the first call or a survey you send out after install. The more you know, the easier it will be to (or not to) set up a showroom.

When it comes to machinery, slabs, and equipment, it’s really about your process. How can you arrange your shop so that it shaves off time here and there throughout your whole process? Asking yourself these kinds of questions is really good practice to always be improving. And when you are always improving, you are becoming more profitable. Cha-ching!

Posted on 16 August 2021 by cradmin4

IWF is inviting proposals for presentations at the 2022 IWF Education Conference, which will be staged in conjunction with the International Woodworking Fair, running August 23-26, 2022 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The mission of the IWF Education Conference is to provide woodworking industry professionals with learning and development opportunities relevant to business operation and management.

Presenters should select topics based on their area of expertise, and should offer practical applications that attendees can utilize in their businesses. Topics should be relevant in 2022 with the potential for future growth that will address attendees’ needs after the 2022 show. Those interested in delivering a presentation at the IWF 2022 Education Conference should submit a proposal of the topic(s) no later than November 5, 2021.

For the first time, IWF will host a series of sessions presented by contracted exhibitors of IWF 2022 within a brand-new Exhibitor EDU track. IWF 2022 is on track to top 1,000 exhibiting companies and will reflect the true scope and scale of the global woodworking industry, featuring virtually all major manufacturers, emerging brands, and new-to-market producers and service providers. ASI Industries Announces Sale of Engineered Stone Division

Posted on 13 August 2021 by cradmin

ASI Industries Limited, an Indian stone mining and quarrying company, announced its intention to sell its engineered stone business to Marudhar Rocks International. The parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for defining the main terms agreed upon, which will be used as the basis of a definitive agreement.

The deal has been approved by ASI Industries’ board of directors and is expected to close by March 2022. However, it is still subject to shareholders’ and lenders’ approvals and other statutory and contractual approvals.

As per the MoU, Marudhar Rocks International will also take on the debt of ASI Industries’ engineered stone business. The Tamil Nadu-based granite supplier will also take in all current employees of the business.

ASI Industries said that it will continue with its business of Kotah and other natural stone businesses. Deepak Jatia, CMD of ASI Industries commented, “The transaction was a bittersweet one for ASI as a company. While we were fully focused on developing the Engineered Stone Division as the next segment of growth, the conclusive benefits from the transaction were reason enough to enter into an agreement with Marudhar Rocks. The transaction helps us pare down our debts and become a zero-debt company in the near future. Going forward, we are committed to building on our Kotah stone business, and should there be an opportunity to move into some adjacencies, we will keep the investors informed.”

Park Industries Introduces HydroClear Pro Water Systems

Posted on 10 August 2021 by cradmin4

The HydroClear PRO Water Systems from Park Industries represent a new generation of water recycling. The PRO Series saves floor space with an all-in-one design that eliminates the need for a separate holding tank. It is available in six different models and is customizable to meet varying shop’s water needs. The HydroClear PRO can accommodate up to 170 gallons of water per minute.

According to Park Industries, industrial activity accounts for about 20 percent of global water consumption. The HydroClear Systems utilize a closed loop recycling system that will enable you to reduce your water consumption by as much as 90 percent.

The HydroClear PRO series includes a four chemical system that manages coagulant, flocculent, bromine, and pH levels.  Each of the chemicals are monitored and automatically dispensed to ensure that the water is in spec.

The HydroClear PRO is also loaded with new upgrades including a touch screen monitor with real-time metrics(flow rate, water levels, etc), a pit stir system that continuously stirs the water (this eliminates solids from settling in the pit, removing the need to clean out the slurry pit), an optional second stage polymer feed which allows for dosing precise quantities of flocculant to the system, a status notification light indicator and an optional limited ceiling height installation kit for shops with low ceilings or cranes to work around.
