Video: Solid Surface Cove Routing and Sanding

Posted on 25 November 2019 by cradmin

This video put out by fabricator Olive Mill, in California, shows the basics of how to route and sand a solid surface, cove countertop.

The video begins with a fully fabricated countertop with the cove insert and backsplash glued up for the purposes of time. The demonstrator uses a specialty Betterly Cove Router, and shows the cove routing itself, followed by the basic sanding process to complete a smooth, contoured cove radius.

Cove backsplashes are a great upsell in solid surface and can increase the value-add and the profits per job, making both the fabricator and customer happier.

Walker Zanger Debuts Kaleidoscope Collection

Posted on 04 June 2019 by cradmin

Walker Zanger, a natural stone and tile design resource in North America, launched its Kaleidoscope collection. The colorful new collection of porcelain tile pays homage to the experimental and playful spirit of postmodern design. Featuring geometric shapes in a pastel palette of matte pink, greens and blues, the Kaleidoscope gives designers the ability to create playful, personalized patterns.

“Just like the geometric glass fractals of a kaleidoscope, this singular collection of tiles is meant to produce countless combinations of colors and compositions for a range of custom-tailored designs,” said Erika Egede-Nissen, Director of Marketing at Walker Zanger. “Kaleidoscope offers the opportunity to play with multidimensional color, or to take a minimal approach with glossy white tile and geometric patterns.”

The new collection is the first to debut under Walker Zanger’s new Design Realized campaign, which encourages design trade professionals and homeowners to consider and explore new styles through Walker Zanger’s curated collection of natural stone, tile and wood products.

Kaleidoscope recalls a Nostalgic Maximalism aesthetic, which is known for its playful layers of pattern, texture and color that create a statement through bold sophisticated stylings. The tiles are available in triangle and square styles.

Wilsonart Introduces Backsplash Collection

Posted on 25 April 2019 by cradmin

The backsplash has been an important design element of any kitchen for decades. In addition to complementing the countertops, backsplashes protect work areas and provide a focal point for a kitchen’s design. According to Houzz 2019 U.S. Kitchen Trends Study, nearly nine in 10 renovating homeowners (87 percent) install a new backsplash as part of their kitchen upgrade.

Wilsonart has introduced the Wilsonart® Backsplash, an acrylic collection featuring a mixture of on-trend, artistic and traditional brick patterns.

According to Houzz, white and grey appear on half of all upgraded backsplashes and walls, and the brick pattern (also known as subway) is still the most popular pick with 54 percent of homeowners choosing it. Wilsonart’s new Backsplash Collection incorporates both popular colors within each of six new designs. From the abstract, geometric Star pattern to the clean, classic look of two Subway tiles, the Backsplash Collection’s designs are fresh and timeless. Ideal for standard backsplashes that extend up to 18-inches from the work area to the cabinets, Wilsonart Backsplash can also be used to create an accent wall behind the increasingly popular floating shelves. While no special tools are required, Wilsonart Backsplashes are not suitable for installation behind gas cooktops or gas slide-in ranges.

The Collection includes: Star, a medium-scale dark grey design with a white abstract geometric star pattern; Maltese Grey, a medium-scale mosaic pattern in shades of grey on a white background; Maltese Ochre, a medium-scale mosaic pattern with pops of yellow and on-trend grey on a white background; Metro White, a large-scale white subway tile design; Metro Grey, a large-scale mid-tone grey subway tile design; Geometry, a large-scale white design with grey hexagon geometric pattern.

Island Stone Introduces Paragon Hex Tiles

Posted on 23 July 2018 by cradmin

Island Stone’s artistry and creativity with natural stone is evident with the introduction of Paragon Hex. In this design stones are precision cut and surface sculpted into rhomboids with a tapered, angled relief. Those unique pieces are then placed into a hexagonal layout to create an interlocking tile. The result is a seamless, three-dimensional array.

“Paragon Hex is a truly unique achievement in stone. Typically, a shape this involved would be made out of porcelain or glass,” says Paul Sepulveda, National Sales Manager for Island Stone. “The combination of complexity and sophistication Island Stone has achieved with Paragon Hex is a testament to our unique vision and intimate expertise with the stone medium. It’s one more way we’re expanding our customers’ expectations about how stone can be used in more modern forms while preserving its earthen, natural feel.”

The edges of the Paragon Hex stones are lightly tumbled for a soft, punctuated look. The stone comes in two colors: Sandstone Ocean and Sandstone Mint. Each hexagonal piece measures 5/8-in. deep at its thickest point and covers .38 sq. ft.

Paragon Hex is part of Island Stone’s Profile Series. The line also includes Paragon Chevron, in which the same rhomboid stones are interlocked into a repeating chevron pattern.
