Weha Introduces the Pitbull Diamond Resin Cupwheel

Posted on 22 October 2018 by cradmin

Weha has introduced the new Pitbull Diamond Resin Cupwheel. This product is a hybrid resin polishing pad with a harder bond to perform like a resin filled diamond cup wheel. However, the Pitbull Resin Cupwheel will reportedly grind and shape with zero chipping on the material.

The Pitbull resin cupwheel comes on a light weight rigid aluminum back. The resin diamond looks like a traditional polishing pad. But the bond is more durable and longer lasting.

The Weha Pitbull Resin Cup wheel can run wet or dry on all materials including granite, marble, quartz, engineered stone, porcelain, ceramic, cultured, concrete and other stone with zero chipping.

This Resin Cupwheel can remove fiber mesh off the back of stone as fast as any diamond cupwheel can. It will create a bevel, round over, or larger radius very quickly. It is also suitable for smoothing out the underside of counter top overhangs and for breaking the polish and creating a hone from a polished surface. It is available in 30, 50, 100 and 200 grit.

Polishing Solid Surface to a Gloss Finish

Posted on 17 September 2014 by cradmin

Here is a video produced by Samsung Staron showing their process for polishing solid surface from a satin to a gloss finish. The video, which is a about 10-1/2 minutes long, walks through the process from start to finish, explaining the equipment and materials needed. While the video starts with material at a satin finish, Samsung Staron has produced two other videos that show how to reach the satin finish – one covering polishing to a matte finish and the other covering polishing from a matte to a satin finish.

While the dark color of material shown polished in the video will certainly show every fingerprint and any abuse (such as failures to use cutting boards) of the finished solid surface countertop, the demonstration is a good one and a gloss finish is delivered in the end.

How Granite is Extracted and Processed into Countertop Slabs

Posted on 25 June 2013 by cradmin

Here is an interesting video produced by the Discovery Channel and posted by Quality Tile and Marble, a fabricator located in Grimes, Iowa. The video, titled “Granite – How it’s Made” shows the process of extracting granite blocks from a quarry. I then shows how the granite blocks are cut down into slabs for use in countertops and other projects, and how they are polished.

If you have never seen the process, the sheer scale of it will amaze. It is definitely worth a watch.
