The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) announced a donation of $375,000 to DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, creating the new Design Impacts Life Fund. The Fund will offer grants to nonprofits that provide services, education and treatment to those affected by HIV/AIDS, with the potential to expand its reach to support others in need. This donation represents one of the largest single gifts ever to DIFFA.

The gift comes from the ASID Benevolent Fund, which was started in 1974 by ASID members to provide funds to those in need in the design community during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. ASID paused fundraising for the Benevolent Fund when DIFFA was launched as a larger design industry focused organization. This donation closes the chapter on the ASID Benevolent Fund and opens opportunity for DIFFA to increase its organizational impact and reach. The ASID Design Impacts Life Fund will be leveraged to create the greatest possible impact on those living with HIV/AIDS and the DIFFA organization. Thanks to the national reach of both ASID and DIFFA, potential grantees may apply from all aver the country.

In addition to its grant support, the Design Impacts Life Fund will leverage the combined power of ASID and DIFFA to spur the industry to action. Through their various programs and partners the two organizations will continue to broaden the scope of the fund to inspire support from the design world and maximize its effect on all communities in need.

Both ASID and DIFFA have a rich history of helping others. ASID provides monetary support through the ASID Foundation, which advances the profession and communicates the ability of interior design to enhance the human experience through research, scholarships and education. In addition to its fundraising and volunteer events, DIFFA has granted more than $4 million to support nonprofit organizations across the country supporting HIV/AIDS.

The Design Impacts Life Fund was officially announced at the annual NYCxDesign Awards on May 20, 2019 at New York’s Pier 17. Both the Society and DIFFA will continue promotion of the fund through their various annual programs.

ASID and Emerald Expo Announce Strategic Partnership

Posted on 08 April 2019 by cradmin

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has announced a partnership with Emerald Expositions, the largest operator of B2B trade shows in the U.S., with the goal of bringing thought-provoking new content and enhancing participant experience. The partnership will impact the full roster of Emerald Expositions’ design-affiliated trade shows and conferences (including GlobalShop, HD Expo, BDNY, ICFF, CEDIA Expo, Healthcare Design Expo & Conference, and Environments for Aging Expo & Conference) by focusing the Society’s presence and offering custom programming.

“There is a natural synergy between ASID and our design portfolio,” says Joe Randall, Executive Vice President, Emerald Expositions. “ASID has always taken a collaborative approach in their mission to educate designers and clients on the power of design. Through our comprehensive network of trade shows, publications and match events, Emerald serves the full spectrum of built-environment design professionals and technology integrators representing residential and commercial markets. We welcome this expanded partnership with ASID and are proud to provide the platforms where key industry issues like functionality, wellness and sustainability can be actively addressed.”

Instrumental to the forging of this partnership was the existing and independently held agreement between ASID and National Kitchen + Bath Association (NKBA), owner of the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), also produced by Emerald Expositions.

Along with integrated marketing and outreach efforts, the enhanced relationship between ASID and Emerald affords the ASID community access to exclusive show-related benefits and leading industry publications. ASID and Emerald Expo will launch new roundtable discussions with subject-matter experts and design leaders in each sector that will help shape the future of practice. ASID will also coordinate “Impact of Design” awards at each show, focusing attention on products from exhibitors that contribute to the health and well-being of clients and/or emphasize sustainable design practices.

Additionally, at each show, ASID will showcase a space that demonstrates the impact of design – a concept space created to uniquely provide an immersive experience on the power of design. The first space debuted at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), North America’s largest trade show dedicated to all aspects of kitchen and bath design.
