Natural Stone Institute Updates Board of Directors

The Natural Stone Institute welcomed Blake Christensen (Valley View Granite) and Amit Gupta (TAB/Amsum & Ash) to its board of directors in January. Christensen and Gupta replace Bruce Knaphus (KEPCO+) and Josh Zhang (Jianming Stone Group) who completed their board terms.

Additionally, the Natural Stone Institute membership recently passed a bylaws vote to adjust the structure of the board of directors. Going forward, the Natural Stone Institute board of directors will include representation from five key North American industry segments (Fabricator, Installer, Quarrier, Restoration & Maintenance and Stone Distributor), as well as one director from the Associate Member segment, two directors from outside North America, and five North America At-Large positions. The total number of board seats will remain unchanged at thirteen.

In 2021, three board seats will be recruited: Associate Member, North American Quarrier and North American Installer. 2021 Board President Mike Picco (PICCO Engineering) commented, “We are excited to have Blake and Amit join the board this year and are grateful to Bruce and Josh for their board service. We strongly feel that the board is assembled with one primary purpose: to serve the membership. We feel that this change has strengthened this mandate.”

NKBA Announces 2021 Board of Directors

The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) has set its Board of Directors for 2021, which will be led by newly elected Chair, Michael Mahan. Mahan is vice president of Schneider Electric. He previously served as Vice Chair in 2020 and has served on the board since 2018.

Joining Mahan as Board Officers are Vice Chair Basil Larkin, vice president of sales for Hestan Commercial Corp., and secretary/treasurer Randy Warner, vice president of sales at the Luxury Division for Samsung-Dacor.

Outgoing Board Chair, Allison Lowrie, Chief Marketing Officer for ANGI Homeservices, will remain on the Board as a director. She is joined by other returning Board members Kristen Elder, Showroom & Builder Vice President, Ferguson Enterprises; Jan Heck, President & CEO, Miele USA, and Jan Neiges, CMKBD, Principal, Jan Neiges CMKBD LLC. New directors joining the board include, Louis M. “Lou” Rohl, Founder of House of ROHL, and son of HoR Founder and Kitchen & Bath Hall of Famer Ken Rohl, who also served on the board, and Mikael Akerberg, CEO of nobilia North America.

Board members Lorenzo Marquez, Founder and President of Marqet Group, and Steve Joseph, Founder and CEO of Smart Home Products, have completed their terms. The NKBA thanks them for their service. The new board will assume their roles on Jan. 1, 2021.

The North American Building Material Distribution Association (NBMDA) has announced its Board of Directors for 2020. The role of the Board is to govern, establish policy and make strategic decisions about the future of the organization.

ISFA Announces 2020 Board of Directors

The International Surface Fabricators Association (ISFA) announced the results of its election for the association’s 2020 Board of Directors. Fabricator Member Directors are chosen by association members for a term of three years, with the option to renew for a second consecutive three-year term. Associate Member Directors are elected by association members for a term of two years, with the option to renew for a second consecutive two-year term. Board officers are elected by members of the full board of directors.

Augie Chavez of GECKO Solid Surface Solutions in San Antonio, Texas, was re-elected by the full board to serve as ISFA President again in 2020. As such, for 2020 the position of Immediate Past President will remain open.

To fill the empty spot thus created on the Executive Committee, Associate Member Representative Jim Callaghan of GranQuartz will serve as Executive Committee Member.

Leaving the board having fulfilled their service periods are: Adam Albee of Counter Culture in Lincoln, Neb., a past ISFA President; Kate Dillenburg of Bisley Fabrication in Gresham, Wis., also a past ISFA President; Matt Kraft of Custom Marble in Millstadt, Ill.; and Steve Stoddard of Advanced Surfaces in Corry, Pa.

New to the board of Directors for 2020 are: Joe Duszka of Carolina Custom Surfaces in Greensboro, N.C.; Laura Grandlienard of ROCKin’teriors in Raleigh, N.C.; and Rodrigo Velazquez of INDEKO in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.

Retaining their positions as Directors are Mike Langenderfer of The Countertop Shop in Monclova, Ohio, who has held several officer positions in the past including Treasurer, President, Vice President and Immediate Past President; and Eric Tryon. Also continuing their positions as Associate Member Representatives on the board are Paul “Max” Le Pera of Global Surfacing Alliance in Cranbury, N.J., and Joe Connolly of SASSO USA in Palatine, Ill.

NKBA Announces 2020 Board of Directors

The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) has named its 2020 Board of Directors which includes are three new additions and six returning members. Allison Lowrie, chief marketing officer of ANGI Homeservices, parent of Angie’s List and Home Advisor, is the newly elected Chair. She succeeds 2019 board chair, Steve Joseph, who will remain on the board.

Additional board members include: Michael Mahan of Schneider Electric, Franklin, Tenn. as Vice Chair, Basil E. Larkin of Hestan Commercial Corp., Anaheim, Calif. as Secretary/Treasurer, Steve Joseph of Smart Home Products, Pasadena, Calif., Lorenzo Marquez of  Marqet Group, Houston and  Jan Neiges CKD of Jan Neiges LLC, Denver. New to the board for 2020 are Kristen Elder of Ferguson Enterprises, Newport News, Va., Jan Heck of Miele USA, Princeton, N.J. and Randy Warner of Dacor, City of Industry, Calif.

Board members Steve Petock, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Ferguson, and Neil Bailey, president of Cabbonet USA, and Vice Chair Emilee Chappell have completed their terms and NKBA thanks them for their service.

The new board officially assumes their new positions on Jan. 1, 2020.

Natural Stone Institute Opens Voting for Board Elections

The Natural Stone Institute has announced that voting for the two open board seats (Zone 2: Mid-Atlantic and Zone 4: Midwest) will open on Monday, November 18. Voting will occur via electronic ballot. One individual will be selected from each zone to serve a four-year term (2020-2023). Six candidates are vying for two board of director positions.

Zone 2: Mid-Atlantic includes District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. The candidates for Zone 2 are: Scott Byers, Majestic Kitchen & Bath Creations; William (Bill) Millar, StoneCrafters, LLC.; and Jonathan Mitnick, CCS Stone, Inc.

Zone 4: Midwest includes Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. The candidates for Zone 4 are: Jeff Erickson, Cutting Edge Countertops; Geoffrey Gran, The Countertop Factory Midwest, Inc.; and John Machunis, Indiana Limestone Company/Polycor.

CMA Announces Annual Election Results

The Cabinet Makers Association (CMA) announced the results of its annual election for the organization’s Board of Directors and the installment of officers.

The CMA members re‐elected James Fox of Fox Woodworking (Phoenixville, Penn.) and Chris Dehmer of Dark Horse Woodworking (Atlanta, Ga.) to serve another three‐year term. Brian Clancy of Clancy Woodworking (Sherman, Conn.) was elected as a new board member to also serve for three years.

The Board has appointed the following officers effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020:

  • James Fox, Vice President
  • Matt Wehner, Secretary

Past president Leland Thomasset will serve as a member‐at‐large along with Ken Kumph of Premier Builders (Georgetown, Mass.) and Monika Soos of Sofo Kitchens (Maple Ridge, BC). Exiting the board is Matt Krig of Northland Woodworks (Blaine, Minn.). The CMA expressed gratitude to Matt for his contributions for the betterment of the association during his six years on the board, which include serving as president for four years.

ISFA Announces New Board of Directors

Augie Chavez 2019 ISFA President

ASID Announces 2019 National Board of Directors

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has announced its new National Board of Directors for FY2019. The board is made up of 11 volunteer members, with three officers (chair, chair-elect, past-chair), seven at-large directors, and an industry partner representative. The term for the new board will begin October 1, 2018.Notes ASID CEO Randy Fiser, “The board’s tireless leadership and invaluable insight is what keeps ASID evolving, excelling, and growing. We’re grateful for the tenure of our outgoing board members and are thrilled to welcome a new team to the fold.”

The ASID National Board of Directors serves as the governing authority for the Society and is responsible for advising and assisting ASID leadership, setting policy, and acting as representatives of the Society’s 26,000+ membership. Board members share the Society’s belief that Design Impacts Lives and assist in advancing the profession and communicating the impact of interior design to enhance the human experience.
