Natural Stone Institute Announces New Natural Stone Countertop CEU Course

Posted on 21 September 2021 by cradmin4

The Natural Stone Institute has announced that a new CEU course entitled Natural Stone Countertops: Considerations for Kitchen and Bath Applications is credit-approved and ready for presentation. Natural Stone Countertops offers an overview of several natural stone choices, with a focus on setting consumer expectations for their performance. Knowledge of fabrication, installation and proper stone care will provide all parties involved with an educated experience when selecting materials. The course also offers examples of natural stone in current and unique designs to help audiences feel confident that they can choose a stone to fit both functionality and personality.

Natural Stone Countertops expands on the content of the popular Marble Use in the Kitchen course, which will be available through 2021 but will “sunset” at the end of the year. While Marble Use in the Kitchen has offered invaluable educational opportunities for audiences over the years, survey results concluded that CEU attendees desired more information about additional natural stone possibilities for countertops.

Natural Stone Countertops was developed by volunteer members of the CEU Education Committee and is now available to certified Natural Stone Institute CEU speakers for download and presentation through the CEU Events dashboard. On demand, live in person, and live webinar credit has been approved for AIA, IDCEC, LACES, and NKBA. Anyone interested in learning more about the course is invited to attend a live presentation of the course on Wednesday, October 6 at 11:00am ET.

While several adhesive suppliers announced multiple price increases over the course of the year, some totaling in excess of 11 percent, Princeton Chemical has refused to raise prices on its Join.It Surfacing Adhesive. Raw material costs have increased, but Princeton Chemical’s unique online ordering system and determination to maintain product in stock and ready to ship within 24 hours, allows the company to avoid passing on costs to users of Join.It Surfacing Adhesives.

Business Sense: How to Start Streamlining Your Countertop Shop

Posted on 15 September 2021 by cradmin

By Katherine Gifford of Moraware

Many of you already know that a growing shop comes with a few growing pains. As more business comes in, your current process (and head) becomes strained. What once worked smoothly, starts to break down. Important details get missed, customers are upset, and the stress is at an all-time high.

This is where streamlining comes in. Taking those processes and creating a system that you can track and maintain is the most important task you can do for your business. Once you organize these, you’ll learn important insights into the way your shop is running. And, you’ll be able to tweak and refine the way you do things to save yourself time and money.

As some very wise fabricators like to say, “you should always be improving.” Refining your processes is a never ending task, but it’s guaranteed to make you and your team better and happier in the long run.

In this post, we’ll talk about some areas where you can start streamlining your countertop shop. Then, you can take your business to the next level and maybe take a well-deserved day off.

Estimating and Sales

It’s pretty common for this area to be the first to get organized in a growing countertop shop. It could be that too many jobs are coming in for one person to bid. Or, that the current estimating process simply takes too long. These situations are stressful and result in losing out on jobs.

The matter of time is an easy fix with technology. With estimating software, you can dramatically cut back on the time it takes to produce a quote while easily training new folks to quote accurately.

Continental Cut Stone Certifies to Natural Stone Sustainability Standard

Posted on 13 September 2021 by cradmin4

Continental Cut Stone in Florence, Texas has earned certification to the Natural Stone Sustainability Standard. The company has achieved Gold status for their quarry, which extracts Cordova Cream limestone, Cordova Shell limestone, and Silver status for their fabrication facility.

Rob Teel, President of Continental Cut Stone commented, “It has been a goal of mine to get our companies certified for a number of years. I have been involved with the Natural Stone Council since its inception and believe that stone has a great story to tell. We are proud of our staff, especially Kristin Cannon, for working through the process with the help of Tom Cleveland. Our hope is that others will continue to follow suit and get certified.”

The Natural Stone Sustainability Standard was first published in 2014 by the Natural Stone Council. Ownership of the standard transferred to the Natural Stone Institute in early 2021, marking a significant opportunity to raise awareness about the standard within the design community and helping to position natural stone as a solution for green building goals.

Quarriers and natural stone fabricators can look to this multi-attribute industry standard to identify ways to improve their sustainability efforts. By defining best practices for land reclamation, adaptive reuse, and management of excess materials and waste, the standard ensures that natural stone companies are being good stewards of the land.
