TISE 2019 Releases Post Show Report

Posted on 13 March 2019 by cradmin

The International Surface Event (TISE): SURFACES | StonExpo/Marmomac |TileExpo took place in Las Vegas this January at the Mandalay Bay. The event experienced another year of power‐house industry attendance, exhibits, product displays and education. Attendees came from 77 countries and from every corner of North America to buy, source, network, and discover what is new, needed, and up‐and‐coming for their businesses.

More than 800 brands, 135 new to the exhibition floor, presented their products in over one million square feet of exhibits, product showrooms, features and education. Each showroom space offered beautiful displays, unique demonstrations, and thousands of products and services for the industry to discover.

TISE exhibiting brands offered products from every aspect of residential and commercial sectors of the flooring, tile, and stone industry including hard goods, soft goods, equipment, tools, supplies and services, and so much more. This year’s market was a discovery for all the senses across the entire exhibit hall.

The benefit of attending live markets is to experience the products first‐hand and to meet directly with the key people who produce them. Exhibiting brands at TISE 2019 ensured the industry could experience their products directly in live demonstrations within their exhibit spaces, as well as, on the Product Demo Stage at The Design + Installation Showcase Hub (The DISH), right on the show floor. MAPEI Corporation and USG offered daily demonstrations each hour covering topics from shower and floor prep to installing floors in a flash.

Many industry veterans attend TISE knowing exactly what they are searching for. Others attend for the first time desiring to see everything the industry has to offer. Both groups leave the event having learned or seen something new and unexpected because the vast TISE market is a place of discovery and inspiration. Iconic brands launch new product lines while new companies move into the marketplace presenting exciting innovation for the industry.

TISE launched a brand‐new education program called CONVERGE at this year’s event. Industry leaders covered the hard‐hitting, on‐point topics such as The 411 on 4:20: Medical Marijuana and the Work Place and What to Expect in Washington DC After the 2018 Elections, technically crucial topics such as Moisture Mitigation Roundtable and The Ways of Water: Critical Considerations for Shower Construction, and design‐centric, forecasting sessions such as Color Vibes: A Journey Through Color and Trends and The Power of 5: The 5 Hottest Trends in Flooring & The 5 Types of People Buying Them. The program was led by experts from inside the industry with conversation by veterans, Jon Namba, Lisbeth Calandrino, and Katie Ford to name a few, as well as experts outside the industry such as Attorney Jeff King and social media specialist Shannon Vogel. Each influencer brought their own unique perspectives and vault of information to provide value to each CONVERGE attendee. Though in its first year, TISE plans to grow, adjust, and improve the program going forward to ensure it meets the education needs of the industry.

Business Sense: Getting Involved in the Stone Industry Community

Posted on 04 December 2018 by cradmin

By Katherine Gifford of Moraware

If you’ve ever needed an answer to a question or were looking for advice on a certain fabrication problem, you’ve most likely found the various resources out there for fabricators.

But, if you haven’t explored any of these yet – don’t feel left out! In this post, we’re going to dive into what those resources are, why they’re a great addition to the community, and why it’s so important for you to get involved.

Am I the only one who’s experienced this?

No way! If you’re facing some sort of challenge, it’s almost a guarantee that your peers have gone through the same thing at some point. Whether it’s a bottleneck in the installation process or the labor shortage struggle, we’re all in this together. Check out the Stone Fabricator’s Alliance where industry professionals like yourself come together to “learn, share, prosper.”

Why take the time out of an already jam packed schedule to participate?

Searching through the public forums, you’ll see a variety of helpful discussions and have access to insightful ideas to implement in your own business. Becoming a member also enables you to educate others with your experience which produces a strong sense of community among fabricators. One of the best ways to describe this comes from the SFA site itself, “We will strive to perfect our craft by continuing education and developing our individual skills, always sharing the experience.” In these forums, you’ll gain insight from your fellow fabricators and contribute to the movement by sharing what you’ve learned in your own journey.

Is it true that we can always be improving?

Can’t say absolutely loud enough. Want to improve your profitability? Or some part of your shop’s process? Employee retention? The use of technology? These topics and many more are part of various industry educational events that happen throughout the year every year.

The Natural Stone Institute and Stone World Magazine are two industry giants that have come together to create the Stone Industry Education series. With 10 events next year in cities across America, the series brings together a whole network of fabricators, installers, and distributors in the stone industry. A variety of topics ranging from financial benchmarking to management tips are covered by industry leaders at these educational summits.

Another series that we love going to is the Park Industries’ Digital Stone Expos. You’ll learn about digital fabrication but you’ll also get some fascinating shop tours where you’ll see firsthand how a fabricator runs his shop and get some great ideas. Many of the speakers will cover important industry trends and business practices like tracking metrics. Overall, these events are highly educational for anyone in the industry whether or not you work in a digital shop.

We can’t forget to mention the big industry trade shows like Coverings and The International Surface Event. These are great events to network with other fabricators and industry experts while learning all the latest trends.

And it’s worth taking off time from the shop?

If you’re learning something new that will only make your role or the shop better, then consider it an investment. You might be busier when you get back to work, but you’ll have fresh new ideas to implement that will create better success – whatever that may look like for you.

Does Moraware get involved?

We sure do! We’re looking forward to attending many of the events next year, participating more in the SFA, and continuing our relationships with industry leaders like CountertopResource.comInternational Surface Fabricators Association, and many more.

Really, we speak with fabricators so often and our entire purpose is to help them run their business better. And we’re proud of our customers! Our goal is to showcase these journeys and share them with the stone community as much as possible. Whether it’s a StoneTalk interview, a Good to Great video, or a Q&A – we’re looking to showcase as many awesome fabricators as possible and be another resource for this industry.

A Video Look At StonExpo & TISE West 2016

Posted on 09 March 2016 by cradmin

This video, published by The Construction-Ed Show, is another take on the recent Design & Construction week, but it focuses on The International Surface Event (TISE) rather than the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, as the previous video we posted did.

It is basically an overview of the event, and while it does focus on the flooring and carpeting as well as the stone/countertop products and accessories, it does fairly well at capturing the feel of the show and there are some things you may very well be interested in, such as the BACA robotic saw/waterjet system shown in the video. You may even recognize a few interviewees (like Patrick Foley of Moraware’s StoneTalk podcast, among others).

If you didn’t make the show, it is certainly worth a look.

You may also be interested in this video that covers the 2016 KBIS expo that took place in conjunction with TISE.
