2021 Design & Construction Week Converts to All-Virtual Event

Posted on 12 October 2020 by cradmin3

Due to health and safety concerns and ongoing travel restrictions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) have regretfully announced that the 8th annual Design & Construction Week® (DCW) featuring NAHB’s International Builders’ Show® (IBS) and NKBA’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show® (KBIS) will no longer be an on-site event. Instead, the two groups are planning a robust, all-virtual event.

Design & Construction Week was scheduled to take place on Feb. 9-11, 2021, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The new all-virtual DCW 2021 will still take place the week of Feb. 8 with extended programming.

“Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of our exhibitors, attendees and the thousands of onsite workers who support the premier event of the residential construction industry, we feel the only prudent course is to make this year’s show a virtual event,” said NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke, a custom home builder from Tampa, Fla. “We have plenty of great virtual educational programs, innovative products, services and workshops on tap, and we are very excited about the 2021 show. It’s an opportunity to set a precedent for the industry by producing a dynamic virtual trade show, and we look forward to a very successful Design & Construction Week.”

“This difficult decision comes following months of lengthy conversations with NAHB and Emerald,” said Bill Darcy, CEO of the NKBA. “The safety and well-being of our attendees, partners, exhibitors, site workers and staff has always been our top priority. As we now cross the 16-weeks-out mark, it was time to transition to 100 percent focus on a virtual event. An all-virtual Design & Construction Week will be a different experience, but with it comes new opportunities to reach an even larger audience that would not have been able to participate on-site, for any number of reasons, including on-going travel restrictions. We pledge to transform KBIS into an exceptional show experience for everyone. And we will be back live — bigger and stronger — for DCW 2022.”

Registration for the virtual DCW event is free for all NKBA and NAHB members and, as with the in-person shows, attendees will have access to KBIS and IBS exhibitors and programming. The new virtual format will allow participants to see the latest product launches and cutting-edge housing and design innovations, hear from the top leaders in the industry, and take part in online education courses, from wherever they are in the world.

Design & Construction Week will return to Orlando as an in-person event Feb. 8-10, 2022.

Further details on the virtual offerings will be forthcoming. For more information on the International Builders’ Show, visit  www.buildersshow.com, and for information on the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, visit www.kbis.com.

IWF 2020 Cancels Atlanta Show

Posted on 12 June 2020 by cradmin3

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt our lives and enterprises, IWF 2020 and the global woodworking industry it serves are not immune to such intrusion. That inescapable reality lies at the heart of the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event.

This unavoidable action comes only after long, intense and exhaustive study and consideration by the IWF show management team working in constant collaboration with the IWF 2020 Management Committee, whose members represent the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America and the Woodworking Machinery Industry Association.

The decision to cancel North America’s oldest and largest woodworking event could not and did not come easily. At the same time, the conditions and circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic–including accompanying travel restrictions and federal, state and local governmental regulations–have made it impossible to stage IWF 2020 without endangering the health and safety of all exhibitors, attendees and the Atlanta community at large.

From the very outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, IWF has monitored and carefully considered its progress as a factor in show planning. It is now clear that hosting the show with tens of thousands of attendees in an indoor space such as the Georgia World Congress Center cannot occur without amplifying the transmission of COVID-19. That risk is absolutely unacceptable.

While no one can be happy with this outcome, we all can look toward the promise of a new, brighter future and all the opportunities IWF 2022 will bring. As we anticipate that future, always know that IWF will continue to move on course in this mission: For the entire woodworking community and across the industry landscape, IWF is where the woodworking business does business. That mission will never change.

For Registered Attendees of IWF 2020 Only: You will hear from IWF on June 19 with full details regarding your IWF 2020 registration fee refunds and hotel room cancellations.

For Contracted Exhibitors of IWF 2020 Only: As we begin laying the groundwork for IWF 2022 now, you’ll hear from us on June 26 with full details regarding resolution of your IWF 2020 commitments.

StonExpo Joined By 3rd Show, Expands To Twice Annually

Posted on 23 October 2013 by cradmin

Hanley Wood announced that a new, third show, will join with its combined StonExpo and Surfaces event in January, and that it is launching a second StonExpo show on the East Coast in October. The new third leg of the event, TileExpo, will be housed alongside of the two previous shows in a mega trade show event Hanley Wood is calling “The International Surface Event.” Additionally, the show will be held twice in 2014 (and presumably beyond) with the second instance October 19 to 22  in the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fla., and monikered as “The International Surface Event East.”

“We are thrilled to launch these two events. TileExpo will be the perfect complement to SURFACES and StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas,” said Dana Teague, Vice President of Hanley Wood Exhibitions. “Launching The International Surface Event East diversifies our geographic and market segment reach, and creates new opportunities for our audiences to engage with the industry.”

According to a release by the company, TileExpo will have an array of  innovative, trend-setting and distinctive tile products. It will offer an education program that includes hands-on demonstrations and on-floor education.

Industry trade groups seemed to have favorable reaction to the second, eastern, event. “The International Surface Event East will fill a void that has been missing,” said Jim Hieb, executive vice president and CEO of The Marble Institute of America (MIA). “We are eager to see all of our members and industry colleagues in Miami Beach.”

Matt Lansing, executive director of the Stone Fabricators Alliance (SFA) said, “The SFA is very pleased with Hanley Wood’s decision to launch The International Surface Event East. We believe in a Fall show that allows businesses to take advantage of annual fiscal tax opportunities, which are beneficial to suppliers and customers alike. We look forward to this expansion and are confident that this show will be appreciated and embraced by all involved.”

A Busy Year for the Countertop Industry

Posted on 29 August 2013 by cradmin

Chuck Sawyer photoGuest Blog by Chuck Sawyer of ISFA

This year has not only been busy and full of exciting changes for the International Surface Fabricators Association (ISFA) but also for the entire countertop industry. Partnerships and alliances are expanding within the industry and among closely associated industries, such as woodworking. Opportunities for general business education and countertop fabrication education have also never been greater or more successful than they are now and will be in the near future.

One of the ways that ISFA is helping countertop professionals to expand their knowledge and network with peers is by putting together Grass Roots Gatherings, hosted by industry supporters like Cosentino, Dixie Plywood and Oldcastle Surfaces. In addition, ISFA established a series of CEO Roundtable discussions in Cincinnati and Chicago, with upcoming events in Boston and Seattle. And with the popularity of the Roundtable events, we are planning a new version aimed at the new generation of business leaders in the countertop industry. This new event will be a conclave where the next generation of CEOs can learn about and share experiences on the topics necessary for leading successful businesses.

Organizations and businesses in the countertop industry are also expanding training opportunities. ISFA is hosting several training seminars, including hands-on training on stone and quartz fabrication and another on solid surface fabrication. A partnership between the Marble Institute of America (MIA) and Stone World is also providing a complete educational series that focuses on running a successful fabrication company. Additionally, ISFA will be providing some opportunities for learning at the 2014 StonExpo in Las Vegas by putting together several educational sessions that are being held at the show.

Another exciting event that will expand the reach of the countertop industry is a new partnership between ISFA and the International Woodworking Fair (IWF). In 2014, IWF will provide an expanded platform for the surfacing industry, which will include a full countertop educational track designed to reach the cabinet, woodworking and countertop industries. Additionally, a full-day Countertop Symposium will be held at IWF.

The big news, however, is that the 2014 IWF will include a new concept – the Countertop Pavilion, a dedicated section of the show floor designed specifically for members of the countertop industry. It will be a high-visibility opportunity for suppliers of machinery, materials, tooling and other products and services in our industry. For fabricators of decorative surfacing products it will be a great way to meet with suppliers, see machinery in action and be part of one of the nation’s largest trade shows.

IWF 2014 will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta on August 20-23, 2014. You can check out the web site at: www.iwfatlanta.com.

With all of these opportunities, it makes good sense to take advantage of them. As our fabrication shops are emerging from the “Great Recession” and we become busier and busier, it is all too easy to lose sight of the educational opportunities that can help to make a fabrication shop more profitable. Like the person who didn’t have the time to take a class on time management, don’t neglect the opportunities to participate and grow with the wealth of training offered by our industry!

ISFA, IWF Announce Expanded Countertops Partnership

Posted on 21 January 2013 by cradmin

The International Surface Fabricators Association (ISFA) and the International Woodworking Fair (IWF) announced the formation of a partnership geared toward increasing the focus on the countertop industry for the 2014 IWF show. The partnership includes an agreement in which ISFA will work with IWF to develop a full countertop educational track for the show and a “Countertop Pavilion” which will be co-sponsored by ISFA.

The educational track will include six educational sessions geared toward the countertop industry, as well as continuing the full day Countertop Symposium that ISFA has put on for the past two IWF expos.

“With so many laminate and solid surface fabricators already attending the International Woodworking Fair it makes sense to expand upon that and open the show up to fabricators of all countertop materials,” said Rick Hannigan IWF 2014 Chairman. “The new educational track will include sessions geared toward laminate, solid surface, quartz surfacing, natural stone, concrete and other countertop materials.”

The new Countertop Pavilion is designed to bring new suppliers of materials, tooling, machinery, equipment and other products and services together in one area of the show for the convenience of those in the countertop industry. As part of the new focus, ISFA Associate Members who have not previously exhibited at the show will be afforded an exhibitor discount if they exhibit in the pavilion and all ISFA members will get discount admission to the show.

Additionally, ISFA will have its 2014 Annual Member Meeting at IWF and will also host a networking event for those in the surfacing industry.

“We have worked closely with IWF for the past two shows and expanding upon our established relationship will provide additional benefits for our membership and for the entire surfacing industry,” said Mike Langenderfer, ISFA President. “Educational and networking events are a big part of what ISFA offers, and solidifying IWF as an outlet for increasing those programs is another opportunity to bring together the industry and improve the quality of the products fabricators offer.”

IWF 2014 will be held August 20 to 23, 2014, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
