IceStone Now Offers Honed Finish

Posted on 01 September 2020 by cradmin3

IceStone is a Cradle to Cradle Silver certified company, with surfaces that are made with recycled glass and zero resins or chemical binders.

IceStone’s 17 colors are available in the gloss finish that has made them famous since 2003 and now also, by special order, in a honed finish.

Just like IceStone’s original look, the honed countertops require no treatment or sealing but have unparalleled durability and resistance to heat, stain and UV damage.

And for projects that aspire to LEED designation, 100 percent of the cost of IceStone surfaces is eligible for LEED credits and that goes up to 200 percent if the job is within 100 miles of the company’s Brooklyn factory.

IceStone Introduces New Color

Posted on 26 June 2020 by cradmin3

Just in time for the beginning of summer, eco-friendly countertop manufacturer IceStone announced a vibrant new color, Ocean Grass. As always nodding at Mother Nature, Ocean Grass consists of large blue glass with tiny hints of clear and emerald green glass in a white background.

Everything done at IceStone is about paying tribute to and protecting the environment. IceStone incorporates 100 percent pre-consumer recycled glass along with cement and non-toxic pigment as the three core ingredients for its product. As a company that is all about giving the environment a second chance by making beautiful use of recycled materials, IceStone’s product offerings sometimes change based on what materials are available. IceStone is also very serious about making sure that they can vouch for everything in their supply chain. That, in part. is why Cradle to Cradle, B Corp and NSF certifications hold such a high importance with IceStone. Samples of Ocean Grass are available now at www.icestoneusa.com.

New IceStone Incorporates Permanently Treated Sealing Technology

Video of heat and stain testing on New IceStone

IceStone and concrete countertops in general are naturally porous. NEW IceStone however, incorporates a new permanently treated sealing technology that enhances IceStone, making it a high level performing surface. New IceStone has been tested on the toughest staining agents including mustard, coffee, vinegar, black markers and lemons, and it has withstood all of them. It is now UV protected, has superior stain resistance, is more heat resistant than quartz and natural stone, and can be installed outdoors.

IceStone CEO Dal LaMagna says, “After 15 years of searching for a way to protect IceStone from staining we found the solution. IceStone has jumped to the front of the line of the most durable stain- and heat-resistant countertops on the market. It is not vulnerable to ultra violet light or reactive to rain and can now be used outdoors. IceStone is Cradle to Cradle certified, provides LEED credits, and is NSF certified. It is one of the most beautiful countertop surfaces you will find.”

In addition, IceStone will no longer require yearly maintenance and will save fabricators time and money by not having to seal. Once it’s been sealed it won’t need to be sealed ever again. New IceStone will also have increased recycled content, reducing its carbon footprint by 21lbs of carbon dioxide.

Video: The Basics of Fabricating Recycled Glass Slabs

Posted on 08 June 2017 by cradmin

This video produced by Vetrazzo shows the basics of fabricating recycled glass slab materials, such as cutting, feed speeds, polishing, overhangs, sink cut-out reinforcement, suitable applications and the effects of temperature change.

While this is certainly just a broad overview, it does explain how fabricating this type of material is similar and different to fabricating other hard surfaces, such as granite.

IceStone Releases Health Product Declaration for its Recycled Glass Surfaces

Posted on 26 March 2015 by cradmin

IceStone White_Pearl

White Pearl is just one color of IceStone recycled glass and cement-based colors for which the company has recently released an HPD

IceStone LLC released a health product declaration (HPD) for its entire line of recycled glass and cement durable surfaces. The HPD is a reporting tool that standardizes the disclosure of product ingredients, enabling specifiers and consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions. Although Health Product Declarations are relatively new (a pilot HPD program was initiated in 2012), the company’s commitment to transparency and healthy ingredients has been a driving force behind product development since the company’s founding in 2003. The HPD is a complement to IceStone’s Cradle to Cradle™ certification, which assesses a company’s social responsibility, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and material reutilization, in addition to product material health.

“The increasing demand for transparency and preference for ecologically sound products is a positive shift in the design industry,” said IceStone President Jana Milcikova. “Producing a health product declaration is a natural fit for IceStone, and allows us to easily express our commitment to responsible design.”

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Honors IceStone

Posted on 15 May 2014 by cradmin

Cobalt Ice IceStoneThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency gave IceStone a 2014 Environmental Quality Award. The annual award is given to businesses, non-profits, individuals and federal, state, local or tribal agencies that have created positive environmental and public health impacts in the last year. The award is a milestone for IceStone, which only resumed production one year ago after a six month hiatus caused by Hurricane Sandy. “This award not only highlights our mission and sustainable operations, it’s also further evidence of our resilience,” said CEO Dal LaMagna. “Since the storm we’ve hired new employees, invested in facility upgrades and new equipment, and debuted new products. It’s a testament to the dedication of the employees, and the support of our community.”

IceStone’s recycled glass and concrete countertop materials are made with the company’s social and environmental practices in mind, which include powering production with a water recycling system, skylights and electric forklifts, providing living wages to all workers and allocating 10 percent of the company’s shares for employees. “The outstanding efforts of EPA Environmental Quality Award recipients are fostering an environmental ethic in corporate board rooms, city halls and neighborhoods across the country,” said EPA Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck.”
