MIA Hosts First Accreditation Immersion Course at Coverings

Posted on 17 June 2014 by cradmin

The Marble Institute of America (MIA) hosted its first Accreditation Program Immersion Course during Coverings 2014 in Las Vegas. This one-day course was designed to give companies interested in accreditation the opportunity to learn about the application, participate in a review of the exam material and to take the accreditation exam. The program background information and exam material review were conducted in the morning, while the five-hour, open-book exam was administered in the afternoon.

“I was impressed by the level of interest and passion for the stone industry shown by the Accreditation Immersion participants at Coverings 2014,” said Rodney Harvey of Curtain Wall Design in Dallas, Chair of the MIA Accreditation Commission and facilitator of the program. “As a member of the group who worked diligently to develop the program these candidates exemplified the stated purpose of the MIA Accreditation program: ‘To provide excellence in the natural stone industry and recognize companies demonstrating compliance with quality standards, so that the public values, has access to, and benefits from consistent, competent and safe fabrication, installation and maintenance of natural stone.’”

The MIA currently has plans to conduct similar courses at StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas East in Miami this October, StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas West in Las Vegas next January, and upcoming other sites.

MIA Accreditation Program Experiences Heavy Growth

Posted on 17 July 2013 by cradmin

The Marble Institute of America’s (MIA) Accreditation Program has experienced its most active quarter of growth since the program’s first three months in existence, According to a recent release by the association. Activity in the commercial arena has been especially encouraging and is a sign that the economic conditions that ravaged the industry over the past several years are receding.

“Following an extremely positive StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas, we knew that it was time to ramp up our recruitment efforts for the Accreditation Program,” said Jon Lancto of Surface Products and chairman of the Accreditation Commision. “We had been hearing for several years that the economic climate was just not right to push a credentialing program. Many MIA members are looking for 2013 to be the year they become accredited.”

The MIA offers a free webinar to interested parties explaining what its accreditation program entails.
