New Ravenna Introduces Bright Young Things

Posted on 03 April 2019 by cradmin

New Ravenna, designer and manufacturer of mosaics for both residential and commercial installations, introduced Bright Young Things, a collection of 26 mosaics in stone and glass with shell, brass, aluminum, and zinc accents. The Bright Young Things collection was inspired by the exuberant and glamorous British aristocrats and socialites of the 1920’s. It was a time that saw the emergence of art deco, jazz, and a bohemian spirit in literature, photography, and theatre. The collection introduces two new finishes; the leather worn surface of Orpheus Black stone seen in Beaton, Lya, and Lytton. And the hand sanded metals in Huxley, which create a velvet texture with brilliant shine. The honed Orchid glazed Basalto of Evelyn reveals sparkling geode inclusions. Cubist influences are found in Bismarck, Eliot, and Harper, while the organic floral textiles of the period inspired Chloe, Eleanor, Rosamond, Sybil, and Zita. Geometric rivets, tufting, beading, prisms and facets are characteristics of style modern embellishments and have been replicated in Byron, Essex, Lawrence, Belen and Yorke. Quintin is a Jazz Age interpretation of subway tile with brass or zinc liners. Tennant, Lombard and Lucet are a geometric Deco pottery motifs. Whistler and Loelia are reminiscent of softer textile patterns, that flow with the elegance of a brushstroke.

Cean Irminger, creative director of New Ravenna, says of the collection, “It’s been almost 100 years since the Bright Young Things Charleston-ed their way into the media and eventually history books, living life to the fullest as England’s “it crowd” and contributing one of the most glamorous eras of the design pantheon. It feels like we are once again on the brink of a giant cultural and aesthetic shift with the youth of today poised to shake things up and rewrite all of the norms. Inspired by the brilliant bohemian spirit of those 1920’s darlings, we created our Bright Young Things collection. We referenced Art Deco style, while creating something totally unexpected and modern. Our design team visited all of the aspects of the era, from fashion to lighting, architecture to illustration. Patterns are named after a “Bright Young” person, and each has a distinct personality, brimming with possibility and brio.

Iris Glazed Basalto

These colorful characters gave us the perfect opportunity to introduce our gorgeous new and exclusive stone, Glazed Basalto. The basalt’s natural geode inclusions show through a hand applied glaze, giving a textured, shifting jewel-hued range reminiscent of dyed velvets. When honed, the material has an organic raw edge while holding onto its color, and the geodes add a flash of diamond-like sparkle from within a matte field. It truly is a versatile, unique, and stunning addition to our material family, and a perfect way to capture the bon vivant spirit of this collection.”

Bright Young Things and all other New Ravenna products are available at New Ravenna showrooms throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia, and Dubai.

New Ravenna Introduces New Collection of Mosaics

Posted on 07 August 2017 by cradmin

unnamed (1)New Ravenna introduced Trove, a collection of six mosaics designed by Sara Baldwin. The mosaics are handcrafted by artisans in Virginia using natural stone, brass and aluminum.

Sara Baldwin was inspired to create a collection that captures the layered colors, patterns, shapes, and illusions of texture, found in the night sky. The mosaics portray stars illuminated against the matte edges of darkness and abstract patterns accentuated by gleaming metallics. She chose cloudy, grey-blue marbles like Bardiglio and Pacifica to illustrate a moody sky in Michael and Simone, while in other patterns such as Astronomy and Orion, stars are intentionally appointed amongst pitch-black Nero Marquina.

The patterns Hudson, Orion, Astronomy, Collins, Simone, and Michael can be fully customized with the client’s material preferences to fit the scope of any commercial or residential project. Every mosaic in the Trove Collection can be installed indoors or out, on floors or walls. The collection is available at New Ravenna showrooms throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia, and Dubai.

New Ravenna introduced Jardins Français, a collection of mosaics designed by Caroline Beaupere. The mosaics are handcrafted in Virginia from combinations of natural stone, brass, aluminum, glass and shell. Beaupere’s Jardins Français collection was inspired by the formal gardens of France, from their ornate ironwork to their intricate symmetry.

The variety of materials represent the four seasons, and the subtle shifts of Mediterranean light. Winter is represented by a brisk tonal white and grey in Jardin de Villandry; Spring is enlivened by luminescent shell used in Fleur de Lys; vivid summer light glows in a Monet blue glass in Jardin de Giverny; and it is the brass in Jardin de Versailles that emulates the golden hues of Fall.

Each pattern can be fully customized with the client’s material preferences to fit the scope of any commercial or residential project. Every mosaic in the Jardins Français collection can be installed indoors or out, on floors or walls. The collection is available at New Ravenna throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia, and Dubai.

New Ravenna introduced Palazzo, a collection of mosaics by Sara Baldwin Design and Paul Schatz. The collection consists of 13 patterns that are handcrafted in Virginia from natural stone and were inspired by the expansive Italian palaces constructed during the Renaissance era. The Palazzo collection explores classic motifs from Roman and Byzantine design. Each piece of stone has been cut by hand, saw or waterjet and either honed, polished or left in its original organic state.

Sara Baldwin, founder and creative director of New Ravenna says of Palazzo, “Originally, I was developing a mosaic for a foyer and reflected on the purpose of the entrance to our homes. A foyer is often a small space that has the capacity to make a dramatic statement with elegant material and generous scale. Often we seek to bring outdoor elements inside a home’s design, which is why I love using natural marble. Its inherent striations are uniquely beautiful, reflecting the soul of the stone.”

Each pattern can be fully customized with the client’s material preferences to fit the scope of any commercial or residential project. Every mosaic in the Palazzo collection is made by hand in Virginia and can be installed indoors or out, on floors or walls. The collection is available at New Ravenna showrooms throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia and Dubai.
