Making a Concrete Countertop

Posted on 02 May 2014 by cradmin

This video, put forth by Expressions LTD, is a condensed (11-minute) look at the creation of a concrete countertop, pretty much from start to finish. While the video runs at an accelerated pace, it does show all of the steps involved in making a wet cast concrete countertop using rebar for reinforcement. A few countertop pieces are made in the video, some with foam knockouts for the sinks (drop in or undermount style), as well as using a Fiberglass DuraBlu Sink Mold to make the integral bathroom sink. While the company does sell concrete countertop related molds and other products for concrete countertop creation, the video still provides plenty of insight into the process. While the seasoned veteran concrete countertop fabricator might not get a lot from the video (other than some idea of the company’s products), those investigating the process or just curious can find some real value here.

And, if you have videos or know of videos that you think we should share, send us a link at [email protected] for consideration.

ModaCrete Introduces Pamako Concrete Countertop Sealer

Posted on 05 March 2014 by cradmin

pamako-bottleModaCrete introduced Pamako CCS (Concrete Countertop Sealer), which was specifically designed for high performance concrete countertops. The sealer may also be used on other types of concrete as long as a high performance admixtures are used, in conjunction with common practices of concrete densification, if needed. It has not been tested for other masonry or stone type uses. According to the company, the sealer penetrates easily and deeply into the surface and remains until cured, rather than concentrating on the surface. This allows it to form a thick crust, but at the same time harden the surface sufficiently in order to resist erosion from wear and use, as well as densify the surface well enough to resist chemical attack. It also prevents penetration of moisture, while at the same time allowing moisture to escape. It also expands and contracts uniformly with the concrete so as not to cause flaking or delamination. The sealer is also reportedly non-corrosive, easy to use and apply, economical in material and labor of application and retains its performance effect indefinitely. It also delivers spot repairability, if necessary, and is UV-stable.

Ultra High Strength Concrete Countertop Mix

Ultra High Strength Concrete Countertop Mix

Posted on 19 February 2014 by cradmin

In this video, produced by Trinic LLC, Mark Celebuski explains the process for creating ultra high strength concrete countertop mixes of 12,000 psi or greater. He walks the viewer through the ratios of cement, stone, slag, admixtures, water and other additives (such as colloidal silica) to increase the strength of the concrete countertop mix. He also explains how to calculate your mix formula for a particular project. He then shows the actual mixing process.

While his mix does use the company’s proprietary admix, a concrete countertop maker could use a different admixture and adjust the process accordingly, which is why we felt it was a useful video to post.

All in all, it is very insightful (if you can overlook the radio playing in the background), and those in the concrete segment of the countertop industry may find it well worth a look.

You may also want to take a look at these other useful concrete videos available on the website.

And, as always, if you have or run across a video you think would be useful to other countertop artisans, please send us a link at [email protected] resource.com so we can share it.
