Braxton-Bragg Offers the Stone Pro Rock Jockey

Posted on 30 June 2017 by cradmin

The Rock Jockey

The Rock Jockey

Braxton-Bragg has made the job of moving material a one-man operation with the Stone Pro Rock Jockey. According to the company the Rock Jockey improves both efficiency and safety by reducing the number of workers required from two to one.

The innovative device was designed for slab warehouse and fabrication facilities and allows a fork-lift operator to safely work alone removing materials from trucks, removing or positioning materials from or to a slab rack, and placing materials on an A-Frame or photo stand. With no need for a man to walk along and guide a slab as it is being moved and placed, serious and costly slab-handling injuries can reportedly be reduced.  Moving slabs is the number one cause of injuries in the rock industry.

The Rock Jockey provides remote control release of the lifter latch and offers continuous 360 degree rotation in either direction. The hand held remote control has a 12-volt rechargeable battery with a magnetic back to prevent loss and can be used while wearing gloves. Remotes are matched to the Rock Jockey with a unique signal, allowing for multiple units to operate in close proximity without interference. The charging port is military grade and has a built-in safety feature that automatically shuts the unit off after 10 minutes of non-use.

Other features include an all-weatherproof antenna, which is EMF shielded and will not cause radio interference, and a safety clutch to prevent damage to the unit or slab from strong wind or accidentally hitting a stationary object. The unit is the same width as a clamp for getting into tight places. Replacement controls are available, but because the unit is sealed from weather no routine maintenance is necessary.

Made and assembled in the USA, the Rock Jockey features all steel construction and is stronger than the clamp or the boom. The only part not made in the USA is the rechargeable battery pack, which is rated for two years of heavy usage. Two versions of the Rock Jockey are available specific to the brand clamp used; the Abaco 50 and the Ardwolf 50.

LG Hausys Launches the Velvet Colors

Posted on 26 June 2017 by cradmin

hi-macsr_velvet_colours_2017_rgb_300dpiLG Hausys launched the Velvet Colours, four new solid shades of HI-MACS. These colors take inspiration from the natural world, including rich organic pigments and tactile materials such as leather and raw clay. The new colors are: Evergreen, Cosmic Blue, Mink and Suede.

Evergreen presents as a classic tone inspired by our need to revert back to nature and to connect with our surroundings. This color rests between warm and cool within an environment bringing the outside in and creating an atmosphere of calm. This crafted and organic green can work alongside natural wood furniture and textiles within cosmopolitan spaces.

Cosmic Blue includes a dark undertone. Taking influence from textiles of the fashion industry and in particular denim, Cosmic Blue is an alternative to a monotone color scheme. Couple with deep wood or metal-framed furniture, or alongside copper or bronze accents for the ultimate finish to any space.

Mink is a warm and comforting subtle grey tone. This solid surface works with other neutrals bringing positive warmth to otherwise all white interiors. The chic finish of Mink offers a softness and has a wholesome appeal that is perfect for sophisticated spaces, especially where mixed with organic wood or ceramic.

Suede aims to channel minimalism and offers a new neutral that strips back a space revealing only what is essential. Inspired by raw ceramics and natural untreated finishes this color offers an alternative to stark white. Use alongside hints of gold in commercial spaces with high levels of activity.

Oneida Air Systems Introduces the Universal Dust-Free Router Hood

Posted on 22 June 2017 by cradmin

Oneida Air Systems, an American manufacturer of dust collection systems for the woodworking industry, announced the introduction of its patent-pending Universal Dust-Free Router Hood. According to the company this router accessory captures nearly all of the dust, chips, and shavings generated by portable routers, enabling the user to have a virtually dust-free routing experience. unnamed (1)

The Universal Dust-Free Router Hood features both a universal base plate, as well as an upper dust dome and lower chip cover that combine to fully encapsulate the router bit. This enables superior dust capture at two different collection points, simultaneously, and ultimately helps to extend the useful life of the router bit. Molded from clear polycarbonate, the same material used in industrial safety glasses, the router hood offers both excellent clarity and superior durability.

Its upper dust dome and lower chip cover freely rotate as the router moves so that the tool operator can work unimpeded, while capturing dust from above and below the routed edge, simultaneously. The lower chip cover removes quickly and without use of tools for inner plunge work and can be replaced by the included shallow cover for tighter edge work. The router hood installs easily using the router’s existing hardware and includes a quick-release hose connection port for simple storage.

OSHA Campaigns for Heat Safety

Posted on 20 June 2017 by cradmin

111June is National Safety Month, which is organized through a partnership of the National Safety Council (NSC) and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). As part of its commitment to workplace safety and in conjunction with National Safety Month, OSHA is campaigning “to keep workers safe in the heat.”

The Heat Illness Prevention Campaign was first implemented in 2011 to educate employers and employees about the hazards associated with working in hot environments. Each year, dozens of workers die and more than 65,000 others require medical treatment for heat-related illnesses. Moreover, 40 percent of these deaths are in the construction industry.

Excess heat is a known safety hazard, and all employers have a responsibility to keep their workers safe from or in environments with high heat and/or humidity. Employers who know that employees will be working in high temperatures should establish a full program to prevent heat illnesses, which would include all of the following:

  • Water, shade and regular breaks are made available.
  • New workers and those returning from time off should be given gradually increasing duties and take breaks more frequently to become acclimated to the temperatures.
  • Train workers to prevent heat-related emergencies.
  • Plan ahead for emergency situations.
  • Monitor employees for signs of heat exhaustion.

Use the Updated Heat-Safety App

OSHA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) have teamed up to develop an updated heat-safety app for Apple iPhones and Android Smartphones. The app provides users with a simple interface that provides the information needed to keep workers safe in hot conditions.

It is a good idea to encourage employees to use the app when they know they are working in hot and humid weather to help them understand what protective measures are necessary to stay safe. The app also provides hourly forecasts of the heat index so that adjustments can be made to the recommended protections.

Heat-Safety Tips from Employers

Granite Construction Company has 113 locations across the U.S. and is one of the 25 largest construction firms in the country. This company uses several methods to keep workers safe in high temperatures, including all of the following:

  • Each supervisor is issued a portable canopy.
  • Workers are provided with evaporative cooling towels and shades that attach to their hard hats.
  • The OSHA-NIOSH heat app is monitored and recommendations are followed.
  • Training sessions on heat exposure are conducted.
  • Workers always maintain proper hydration.

Other companies, such as land of Lincoln Goodwill industries and Ballard Marine Construction, provide frequent breaks in the heat, offer earlier shifts during the summer, provide sports drinks on hot days and put up canopies with integrated water misters.

For further information on heat safety, visit the OSHA Web page on Occupational Heat Exposure or read the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidebook Climate Change and Extreme Heat: What You Can Do to Prepare.
