New Ravenna Introduces Legend Mosaic Collection

Posted on 29 March 2017 by cradmin

New Ravenna

Augustine, a hand-cut stone mosaic, shown in hand-chopped tumbled Calacatta Tia and Nero Marquina.

New Ravenna introduced Legend, a collection of seven mosaics designed by Sara Baldwin Design and Paul Schatz. The textural mosaics are handcrafted in Virginia from combinations of natural stone that have been tumbled, polished and hand chopped. The Legend collection was inspired by ancient textiles, woven to reflect the wonders of geological and cultural landscapes. The subtle palette of colors is determined by the organic qualities of the stone.

Each pattern can be fully customized with the client’s material preferences to fit the scope of any commercial or residential project. Every mosaic in the Legend Collection can be installed indoors or out, on floors or walls. The collection is available at New Ravenna showrooms throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia, and Dubai.

Chemical Concepts to Feature New Products at Coverings 2017

Posted on 28 March 2017 by cradmin

Chemical Concepts has been in the countertop fabrication and kitchen remodeling business for more than 50 years, and this year at Coverings 2017, the company is featuring several new products, including Stonetac Activator, 6600 Rodmaster Quick-set Rodding Adhesive, 650UC Ultra Clear Epoxy and the Counterplate Plus 12-in. bracket.

The Rodmaster 6600 Quick-Set rodding compound is a toughened structural acrylic adhesive that sets up in 5 to 10 minutes and offers 5 times the strength compared to polyester adhesives. This convenient cartridge-based product is much faster to apply than traditional epoxies, saving time and labor while providing superior protection for delicate surfaces.

The new Counterplate Plus 12-in. bracket provides ultimate support for bartop overhangs, with no deflection even at high loads. These brackets offer the strength of 1/2-in.-thick steel without the weight, bulk or cost. They are also much easier to install than 1/2-in.-thick supports.

Reduce Workplace Injuries Through SHARP

Posted on 27 March 2017 by cradmin

??????????Shoeneck Containers in New Berlin, Wis., a manufacturer of plastic containers for consumers and commercial businesses around the world, recently announced it has reduced workplace injuries by 90 percent while doubling the size of its workforce by entering the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) offered by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA).

What Is SHARP?

SHARP is a free, comprehensive consultation service offered by OSHA and regional safety partners. The goal of this program is to help improve the occupational safety and health programs put in place by private businesses. Most consultations take place onsite, and they provide several benefits to workers, management and the business as a whole.

Employee Benefits

  • Helps workers identify and remove workplace/worksite hazards
  • Protects employees from injuries and illnesses
  • Improves morale

Management Benefits

  • Helps managers comply with federal and state laws and regulations
  • Increases overall management effectiveness
  • Increases productivity and product quality

Business Benefits

  • Demonstrates how the cost of accidents greatly outweighs the cost of accident prevention
  • Lowers workers’ compensation rates
  • Limits damage to equipment and inventory

How SHARP Works

SHARP is open to all businesses that have fewer than 250 employees at one site and fewer than 500 employees at all locations, not including franchises. The consultations are completely confidential, and consultants from OSHA are not allowed to issue citations or, propose penalties to OSHA or report possible violations to OSHA enforcement.

In fact, most business in the program are exempt from standard OSHA inspections for up to a year. In addition, successfully completing the program and following through with all recommendations guarantees that your business will pass future OSHA inspections.

The program consists of four steps that will educate you about general approaches to workplace safety and health, provide you with a written report of findings, help you develop and maintain and effective program for preventing illness and injury and provide training for you and your staff.

The four steps are as follows:

  1. Opening conference
  2. Walkthrough and analysis
  3. Closing conference
  4. Abatement and followup

SHARP Certification

Once you complete the consultation, the consultant will evaluate your response, and based on that evaluation, may recommend your business for SHARP certification. If approved, most states will conduct a ceremony to recognize the achievement, and your business will be exempt from programmed inspections for up to two years.

After two years, you may request a SHARP renewal for up to three additional years by continuing to meet all certification and renewal criteria. You can read a variety of SHARP success stories and view all SHARP-certified businesses by state at the OSHA website.

For further information about SHARP and OSHA’s Onsite Consultation Program, visit or call (800) 321-OSHA.

Posted on 22 March 2017 by cradmin

vitoria stone fairThe Vitória Stone Fair/Marmo+mac Latin America has been rescheduled to take place June 6-9, 2017, at the Carapina Events Center, Serra. The event was cancelled last month because of escalating public security issues and the closure of many public facilities in the state of Espirito Santo.

According to the Milanez & Milaneze CEO, Cecília Milanez Milaneze, activities for the fair are already underway. Milaneze stated, “Brazil is important in the worldwide scenario of natural stones and continues to be a reference point for foreign purchases. We have already started different international actions to bring buyers and expositors from the strategic markets to the Vitoria Stone Fair 2017.”

“We think that temporary difficulties act as a stimulus because at the same time they bring opportunities as well,” said Tales Machado, president of Sindirochas, Espirito Santo’s stone association.  “The Espirito Santo State stone industry is formed by businessmen with strong entrepreneur capacity, which for many years has made the State of Espirito Santo the biggest producer, trader and exporter of stones in Brazil. We are optimistic that the new event date will go beyond our expectations of a great event”, he states.

“Vitoria Stone Fair is one of the most important fairs of the sector in the world and the only one in Latin America, gathering businessmen, suppliers, local and international buyers in one place. The fair has been already consolidated as an important international event, and contributes with the local market fostering employment and incomes,” said the Development Secretary of the State of Espirito Santo, José Eduardo Azevedo.

The country is the biggest producer and exporter of stone, and Espirito Santo is the main state producer of ornamental stones in Brazil, responsible for more than 80 percent of the exports.
