The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic Construction Safety Council (MACSC), has launched a four-month safety initiative in an effort to address the top four safety issues in construction. Each month, a new issue is addressed with lesson plans developed to reach these specific outcomes:
- Identify common hazards
- Describe types of hazards
- Protect workers from hazards
- Recognize employer requirements to protect workers
While this initiative was launched in March, the instruction guides are readily available on the Construction Focus Four Training webpage. The Focus Four Training issues by month are as follows:
- March – Electrical Hazards
- April – Struck-by Hazards
- May – Falls
- June – Caught-in/Between Hazards
In-house trainers can use the learning objectives to apply effective training techniques and can use the tests provided by OSHA to determine each worker’s knowledge based on the learning objectives. The Introduction to the Construction Focus Four Outreach Training Packet is available as a free PDF.
