Fabricator Profile: Quality Tile’s Formula for Success

_MG_1270_600x445Quality Tile, located in West Warwick, R.I., knows how to establish success even after losing everything. In 2010, the shop was submerged in more than 8 feet of water, virtually destroying all records and anything else made of paper. However, the sales manager, Veronica Gomes, and owner, Bill Place, were so strongly determined to get the business back on its feet, they were able to go from zero to 100 percent again in little more than a year.

Bill Place founded Quality Tile in 1989, and at that time it was strictly a tile installation company. Nine years later, Place expanded into stone countertop fabrication and now offers cabinetry and plumbing services in an effort to create a one-stop shopping experience. Quality Tile’s customer base is overwhelmingly from the retail residential sector, but this is supplemented with referrals from contractors and designers.

One move the company made during its expansion was to because a DuPont Certified StoneTech center, which allowed Quality Tile to offer a 15-year warranty and a five-year backdated warranty against food and beverage stains on surfaces treated with DuPont sealers. Only certified StoneTech Professionals may offer the warranties.

Quality Tile’s headquarters, which includes an office, shop and showroom, is 6,800 sq. ft. in area, and the company has 10 full-time employees. Gomes states that they were able to survive their recent disaster by offering exceptional service and not pricing themselves too low. She also explains that the company uses a five-step formula for success.
