Mitch Hires, founder of Atlanta Kitchen in Decatur, Ga., attributes the success of the business to a wide selection of products, selecting a top-quality staff and getting rid of company debt as quickly as possible. When it comes to his business, failure is simply unacceptable to Hires, noting the difficulties Atlanta fabricators faced during the recent economic recession. What saved Atlanta Kitchen was treating his customers honestly and giving them fair deals.

Before the recession, the vast majority of Atlanta Kitchen’s business was new, residential construction, but after diversifying, the percentage of single-family homes dropped as low as 55 percent as commercial projects and multi-family dwellings were added. In addition, retail and remodeling have become important sectors.

Diversification, however, brought Atlanta Kitchen a new problem. They had been using a variety of companies for their different work and were losing the strength of a single brand image. To correct this, Hires established a holding company, Construction Resources, to bring his companies under a single brand.
