Colt Industries held a live via the Internet press conference on Dec. 8, announcing that it had cut ties with DuPont regarding distribution of Corian solid surface and Zodiaq quartz surfacing. It is unsure how this major shake-up in the solid surface and quartz industry will play out, but Colt is one of DuPont’s largest surfacing distributors, covering 17 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennesee, Texas and Southern Illinois. In place of DuPont’s surfacing products, Colt will now be distributing Diresco Quartz Surfacing, manufactured in Belgium, and Durasein 100 percent acrylic solid surface. Additionally, it will distribute GlueBoss SeamBoss and ClipBoss adhesives in place of DuPont’s.
According to the company, the change was made so the company could offer products of the same quality but at better pricing with faster turnaround on custom color orders. Diresco Quartz has already been stocked in Colt’s facilities and the company expects to have solid surface stocked by the beginning of the new year. The company also reports that the new materials will come in many similar colors as what it previous carried.
