Inflatable Solid Surface Project

Posted on 13 January 2016 by cradmin

In this video posted by Dezeen, a design and architecture magazine, London designer Rachel Harding, a London-based designer, used Corian solid surface, which we are all familiar with in countertop applications, in a very unique way. While it may not be a countertop application, per say, it is pretty amazing. What Harding did was to create a balloon-like chair by inflating it.

For those of you who are solid surface fabricators or enthusiasts, this is well worth the time to watch.

Amazing and Unique Countertop Projects

Posted on 18 October 2013 by cradmin

We ran across this video of some amazing work done by Gene McDonald, of Refresh Interiors, located in Florida. The work is very unique and is truly “art.” Using a variety of techniques, such as various edge treatments, inlays, thermoforming, layering, backlighting, unusual shapes and more, the company truly gives its customers one-of-a-kind creations, personalized just for them.

Another thing you will note when you watch this video is that the company uses a variety of materials including stone, quartz, solid surface, glass, recycled glass, paper-based composites, bamboo, metals, concrete, semi-precious stones and even a material that glows in the dark.

This is just one of many videos showcasing the talent at Refresh Interiors, but you should get the picture by viewing it. And while we may not be the biggest fans of the music choice on the video, we here at CountertopResource.com are certainly fans of the work…

More on Thermoforming Solid Surface

Posted on 21 November 2012 by cradmin

We had a lot of people email wanting more information on thermoforming solid surface. We are working on developing some articles on the topic, but in the mean time here is another video providing more insight into the process. The video is from a manufacturer of thermoforming equipment – Global Vacuum Presses – so it is a bit promotional, but it also offers some good information and a look at the actual process (using Global’s heating system and vacuum press).

We will continue to develop other informational resources on this subject, but for now, enjoy:

Thermoforming Solid Surface

Posted on 16 October 2012 by cradmin

Here is another great video, this one posted by Sterling Surfaces – a fabrication outfit in Massachusetts that is well known for its 3-D thermoforming capabilities – depicting the creation of a complex solid surface desk. The desk was made out of LG HI-MACS for the product’s owner LG Hausys, to be displayed at the 2010 Greenbuild show.

The video only provides a glimpse of Sterling’s actual thermoforming station/process, but otherwise does a good job of showing the process from the mold to the final finishing. Well worth a watch for those interested in solid surface:
