Chinese Ceramic Tile Duties Decision Pushed Back to September

Posted on 18 July 2019 by cradmin

The U.S. Department of Commerce has issued notice that the initial decision regarding duties on Chinese ceramic tile imports has been delayed.

Earlier this year the Coalition for Fair Trade in Ceramic Tile (CFTCT), a group of eight U.S. tile producers, filed a petition for relief from what it claimed are Chinese unfair trade practices. The CFTCT requested the delay to allow more time for investigating subsidy claims. The unfair-trade petition covers all ceramic-tile products from China, including large-format slabs.

According to the notice released by the Commerce Dept., “The Coalition for Fair Trade in Ceramic Tile, submitted a timely request that we postpone the preliminary countervailing duty (CVD) determination because the Department of Commerce is still in the respondent selection phase of this investigation, and because this case may present certain complicated issues. The petitioner states that additional time is necessary to ensure that Commerce can conduct a full investigation regarding the subsidy benefits received by Chinese producers and exporters of ceramic tile.”

The due date for the preliminary determination on countervailing duty has been extended to September 6, 2019 and the antidumping-duty decision will be made by mid-September.
